10:21 p.m. 3…2…1… I just heard the best quote
ever. “If you’re tired of sour cream,
you’re tired of life, in my opinion.” – Garrison Keillor. I find that awesome. And I’ve decided that I am now a Garrison
Keillor fan, as he seems like a lot of fun. As the new year quickly
approaches, I am here…reading reflections.
Sigh. My goal was to have
everything done by midnight, but I’m starting to get bored so I will finish
up tomorrow. I don’t like to grade
reflections when I’m bored. I get all
fuzzy and tired, and if I’m to make it to midnight and properly celebrate, I
ought to stop. And do laundry. Exciting exciting life in My New Year’s Resolution: Don’t
die from exhaustion. I think this is a realistic
resolution, as I am about to embark on a year of insane busyness. I will work more and sleep less. It will be fun, I expect (the working, not
the sleeping less), but I do have the tendency to say yes to everything (work
related and music related)….maybe this year’s motto should be JUST SAY
NO! Want to play a gig? NO!
Want to give a lesson? NO! Want to conduct the blah blah blah? NO!...mmmm....okay. What can I say, it’s fun. I hope you all have a lovely
and safe New Years. Tomorrow I have to
make the annual appearance at my parents’ church. I wish there weren’t a gajillion steep
steps. I wish it didn’t smell
funny. But I will go to make my
parents happy. I bet $10 that the
minister asks about the significance of….3 New Years…symbols. I always forget what they are. It’s a Japanese Buddhist thing (which is
what my parents are). And then he will
try to get the “kids” to come up in front and play insipid “games”. I always worry that since there’s just one
3 year old and then the other people there are over 50…that I will somehow
get roped into doing it. I haven’t
yet, but this other girl who just graduated college had to do it last
year. Ha ha. HAPPY NEW YEAR! |

11:51 p.m. What Dreams
May Come I had a barrage of dreams last
night, involving teaching…and it being the first day of school. And somehow I had managed to come to Plaza
Vista in the morning (this is a dream now, remember) without one of my
shoes. As I was searching for my
converse, the bell rang, and I actually ended up showing up to 1st
period about 15 minutes late because I was looking for my shoe. When I got there, there were about 100
people, 6th – 8th grade, all randomly standing
around. In the end, it turned out that
more than half of the group was not from orchestra, but people from other
music classes who decided to be in orchestra for the first time. And I remember being annoyed at the fact
that the schedules weren’t right, because there were all grades in the class. 2nd period came and
went. I can’t remember what exactly
happened. Something with the
risers…and again, the classes were all mixed, not only by grades but by
ability levels, too. I went to 6th
and 7th period at In the meantime, the grading
frenzy continues. I’m nearly done
(relatively speaking). I started
watching the 1st season of Gilmore Girls when break began, and now
I’m already in the 5th season.
See what happens when you’re in I had to go to AAA (Triple A)
to change some registration blah blah blah about my car with my dad. Slow people bother me. This man was walking into the building as I
was walking out, so I let him come in first since the door opened out. Well the man walked in, and proceeded to
just STAND in front of the door. Now…I
was clearly waiting to go out, and
while there was a line for
something that crossed the door, if he had in fact meant to have gotten in
line and thought I was in line…he had just cut in front of me! Booo.
BOOO!! I gave him a
reprimanding look as I walked around him to leave. No soup for you! And speaking of soup, I got a
new soup bowl from Save Mart today.

5:00 p.m. Merry
Christmas!! I hope that everyone is having (has had) a wonderful
holiday! After waking up at 12:30 p.m.
(I told you I’m enjoying my sleep…) and getting ready, and prying my father
away from the various games on tv, we all opened presents. I got a stand light! Yay! And a new cutting board from my sister. With my sister, I always have to send her a
link of what I want otherwise I get very odd and impersonal gifts. Soaps.
Strange books (I won’t scar you with the titles). So I learned early on that with my sister, when
she asks what you want, you better tell her and provide her the means to
acquire that gift otherwise….well….weird things happen. Now my dad. Oh my
dad. At Thanksgiving he was swishing
his red wine around in his glass because he just found out that that makes
the wine better. However, he did this
in these tiny little wine glasses so red wine kept spilling everywhere. So this year I bought him a set of nice
goblet sized red wine glasses so that he could properly swirl without
covering everything and everybody in wine.
Last night my father comes back from Costco with various bulky items
(water, a chicken, toilet paper…), and then pulls out a box. “I got this from Cost Plus! Nao’s favorite store!” (by the way, it’s not my FAVORITE
store. And Nao is short for
Naoko. And I never respond to Nao
because it sounds too much like NOW)
Well, he opens a box up and pulls out 4 big RED WINE GLASSES! GAHHH!!!!! Who buys themselves a present
the day
before Christmas?!?! What IS that?! I was not happy at all. When I told my sister this story over the phone this afternoon
she laughed hysterically for a good amount of time. Sigh.
Parents. Whatcha gonna do. Anyways, my dad was surprised when he
opened his present and I then proceeded to get mad at him for buying wine
glasses yesterday. J Happy Holidays everybody! |

9:30 p.m. Fa La La La
La How I love vacation, let me
count the ways: 1.)
I
get to sleep in 2.)
I
have time to catch up on my grading 3.)
I
get to sleep in 4.)
I
get in some quality NOTHING time. This
includes playing backgammon or spades, or whatever tickles my fancy. 5.)
Pine
smells fill the house 6.)
I
get presents 7.)
I
get to sleep in 8.)
Sound
of music and It’s A Wonderful Life are on TV. Okay, that’s enough of that. I am in THE ‘NO. (a.k.a. I found a HILARIOUS youtube
clip of a Pachelbel Rant. I’d post it,
but it has some language and as there are some youngin’s who visit, that’s
not all too appropriate. I also
ordered new strings to try! Being the
proud music dork that I am, whenever I have a little extra cash, I experiment
with different strings. It’s an expensive
experimentation, but I’m still trying to find that perfect A string. If any of you are interested, there’s
an article that covers the basics. In the past week, 3 more
lampposts have gone out while I was passing it. In one particular episode, I was explaining
how this happens to a skeptic when the lamppost I was walking by went
out! I excitedly punched the person
and said, “See!!!” When watching The Sound Of
Music…my least favorite part is when the nun sings “Climb Every
Mountain”. I didn’t like it as a
child. I certainly don’t like it
now. I wish I had tivo so I could fast
forward. Ick. But alas, in All right, I’m going to go
huddle by my portable heater (since my parents don’t believe in using the
house heater). Happy Holidays everybody! |

12:15 a.m. Made Me
Smile THIS
PICTURE made me smile. Like the
proud music dork that I am, I was searching for random bits of Yo-Yo Ma
goodness. It actually started with
looking for the DVD of when Yo-Yo Ma was on Arthur (episode MY MUSIC
RULES). But to search tv.com, I had to
go to imdb.com to figure out the episode name. And then I saw some pictures, and had to
peruse them. I love that Yo-Yo Ma is walking down the red carpet to the
Oscars….with his cello on his back
XD That’s just cool. I made it through all 4 of my
concerts! I’m done! I can get sick now! But…I will try not to. I’m looking forward to vacation. I can’t wait to sleep. I’ve been visiting Starbucks
far too frequently these last two weeks.
I’d rather spend my time perusing the music and books at Barnes and

`0:42 p.m. Something
Odd There’s something I noticed
while attending UCLA that struck me as odd.
It’s an odd facet of my life and I’m beginning to wonder if it has any
bigger ramifications. When I walk by
lampposts…the light goes out. Now…that
would be an interesting coincidence if it happened a few times. But this happened NUMEROUS times. It was always different lights. A couple times it happened with my friend
Esther, but it also happened on my own.
I had somewhat forgotten about
this unusual occurrence until this past weekend, when it happened again! Twice! I’m trying to figure out what
could possibly be the source to this unusual happening. It’s happened at least 20 times since I was
in college, if not more. I wonder if
I’m secretly made up of some sort of…anti-lamppost material. In other news, I’m tired and
busy, but in a lovely sort of way. A
lot of holiday gigging, not to mention 4 holiday concerts….I’m looking
forward to break. I’ll finally be able
to sleep! J
Otherwise…that’s about it. |

6:14 p.m. Speechless I just spent the last 8 hours listening
to cello auditions for All Southern.
This is why I just heard. Ucla won… I mean…. UCLA WON!!!! Yeahhhh
boyeee!! Heh :D
I’m going to have to tease Mr. Ghiassi on Monday. I can’t believe that UCLA won. That’s insane. I can’t believe that we took USC out of the
bowl. That’s awesome. After 7 years of losses. When nobody thought UCLA could possibly
win. When some furniture store offered
free furniture if UCLA won… (or something like that)….I can’t believe
it. All I can say is… HA HA! |

9:24 p.m. Back From
The Dead! WOO! Well, here I am! Alive and well! After a very very sad bout, I’m glad I’m
back and all right. In case you have fallen off the
planet….or just aren’t in touch with me, my computer died about a month
ago. It was a very very sad death for
me, since I am so dependent on technology.
Basically, one day I pressed the power button to my computer and
nothing happen. * POOF * All my practice records, gone. All my work stuff, gone. All my college papers, gone. All of my mp3s (2000….15 gigs worth….)
gone. My movies (Star Wars, Grey’s
Anatomy, etc.)…gone. ::: SOB ::: Let me tell you, it was difficult to go so
long without technology. This is what
I do. It’s my thing. So a couple weeks ago, I
received my new computer. It’s a
Toshiba Satellite, and it’s orange!
=D Come on…that’s awesome. And I just figured out how to
do websites even though I don’t have Microsoft front page anymore. Instead, I’m using Microsoft Word. Go figure.
I’m still missing things, though.
A lot of work stuff, all my school stuff. Fortunately, I was able to transfer most of
my music library from my iPod to my computer this past 4 day weekend. It took HOURS to rename everything and
reorganize and all that stuff. But
it’s nice that 10 years of music isn’t destroyed. Otherwise…things are going
well. I’m guessing I will get sick
next week if history proves consistent.
I’m just glad to be back on the blogosphere. |
