How Do Women Do It?

Because I’m going to Mr. G’s wedding tomorrow, and because his fiancé probably wouldn’t appreciate me showing in my “waffle stompers” or my checkered Vans, I had to go buy myself some dressy shoes.  From Payless.  Having never been a heel person, I bought wedges.  Except the toe part is maybe an inch off the ground, and the heel is 2-3 inches off the ground.  But it’s flat, it’s flat!  I figured flat = less chance of falling over.  I hope.  But man, even in these…well, I’m not basking in comfort, let’s just put it that way.  I’m not going to walk around Disneyland in these.  I don’t know how other women wear high heeled shoes every day.  To work?  TEACHERS?  How do other teachers do that?  Can’t you see it now?  Me in heels, tripping over some poor 4th grader’s end pin and creating some sort of horrible domino atrocity?

I took George to Weisshaar (a German music store that is very good with serious instruments, but very expensive).  George is going to be getting a new bridge, the tip of my bow is getting replaced, rehaired, and possibly getting my endpin fixed so that it can actually retract into my cello.  Woo hoo.  Except did you know that a top of the line bridge is $325?!!!  I didn’t.  Because I’ve never had to buy a new bridge.  So now I’m excited and also thoroughly depressed.  I am cello-less….George-less until Wednesday evening.  =…(

Okay.  Well I should go walk around in these stupid shoes.  There’s nothing more attractive than sweats with shiny black dress shoes.

SO HUNGRY

Have you been SO absolutely hungry that you know that once you eat, you’re going to get a stomach ache?  Have you ever been so hungry that instead of eating, you’re basically shoveling food into your mouth?  That’s how I feel today.  I just got home from Honor Orchestra auditions (4 hours…30 cellos) and I haven’t eaten ALL day.  I meant to get a snack, but during lunch time I had some kids come in for help, so I stayed in to help them.  And then I just rushed to Lakeside for auditions, and went straight.  I didn’t even take a break.  And now I am tired.  Very very tired.

I’m glad I had spaghetti waiting for me in my refrigerator, anticipating this event.  Spaghetti, some spinach salad, and a piece of toast….that’s some good eats right there.  Of course I was so hungry I would’ve eaten nearly anything.

And now I am eagerly awaiting one of my new favorite shows: Heroes!!!  I like Hiro Nakamura.  He’s so darling.  I want to feed him cookies.   I very well may fall asleep before then though.  I’ve had a long lovely day.

Growing Up Is Hard To Do

I’ve discovered the ultimate sign that you have grown up.  It is a sad sad moment when you realize you can no longer hula hoop.  Younger folk pick up a hula hoop and can naturally do it without working hard at it.  And then you see adults attempt it, swaying about, only to have the hoop fall immediately to the ground.  It’s very very sad.  But, without fail, it’s a perfect way to tell.

In the meantime, I’m watching American Idol.  Oh my cheese.  Some of these people…it’s not even funny, it’s just sad.  These sad sad people who THINK they have talent.  And to be honest, if you are auditioning for American Idol…you BETTER be able to sing better and more in tune than I can, otherwise I have absolutely no respect for you.  Well maybe not the in tune thing.   But…come on.  You better have a better voice quality than I do, otherwise…really.  Did you see the girl who sang like a lion??  WHAT WAS THAT?!  I’ve been watching for about an hour and nobody has knocked me out.   I haven’t gone, “Wow, that was amazing” yet.  I’m waiting.  I’m waiting.

But not that long, because I’m really tired and want to go to bed.

Once Upon A December

Anybody else watch Beauty and the Geek?  It might be a little…to old for some of you.  All I’ll say is…I love geeks :D  They make me happy.  And I’m watching it idly as I write and contemplate whether I’d like to play Spades or Backgammon.

I finally slept!  I slept long and deeply last night, going through a myriad of crazy dreams.  One of those involved my deciding to move to Japan with my family, and announcing it on the day I was going away.  And even in my dream, I remember thinking: how odd that I’m not staying here…why am I choosing to go to Japan with my family?  But when dreaming, there are times when I realize the ridiculousness of my dreams.

This first week back has been rough.  I don’t know about you all, but I am TIRED.  I got so little sleep this week that I was thoroughly looking forward to this weekend.  I apologize if I was spacey J

I’ve also been thinking about winking, recently.  Very few people can pull off a wink without looking creepy or cheesy.  Most likely, the person you wink at will either look at you funny or laugh at you.  Just a strange notion, really.

Demetri Martin CRACKS ME UP.  He has a Comedy Central special right now, and he just makes me laugh.  He has very clever humor, which I always appreciate.  I appreciate intelligence and wit, and Demetri…he’s a funny guy.

Happy New Year!

I hope you are enjoying your last few moments of vacation.  I…am putting my new CDs into iTunes so that it may find a home in my iPod.  Some string quartets, some Harry Potter, some Blue October.  I like a variety, what can I say.  I’ve been spending a little too much time at Barnes and Noble.  I think the music cashier recognizes me now.

Today is the 1 year anniversary of having procured George =D  We celebrated by….practicing.  I know, I know.  I don’t care.  I bought him a set of new strings, which we are now breaking in.  That’s a nice present…

Otherwise, it’s business as usual.  I kind of wanted to see Happily Never After…it looks cute.  Tomorrow begins the craziness that is the next 3 months.  And my guess is that tomorrow I will be working on maybe an hour of sleep, if my current insane sleeping habits continue.  But that’s okay.  I’m just glad to be back in Southern California, where it’s sunny and relatively warm.  Where I can walk around in short sleeves without freezing my arms off.  Where people drive faster than 30 mph.  Seriously, everything is SLOW in Fresno.  Lovely people and all….but SLOW.

All right, well back to school tomorrow.  See y’all soon!
